Dovecot, North corner of Parish Church Manse Garden, Old Aberdour

The dovecot, located at the north corner of the Parish Church Manse Garden in Old Aberdour, was likely built between 1820 and 1830. It is constructed from re-used materials, which seem to include parts of the former church steeple. The small square structure is made of roughly pointed and squared red sandstone, featuring tooled sandstone dressings. It has a central entrance with paired flight holes above the lintel, which is fronted by a small alighting ledge. The roof is a stumpy octagonal pyramid made of tooled ashlar, probably re-using materials from the former steeple, and it has small paired or single flight holes on the south and west-facing sides. The dovecot is topped with stumpy angle wallhead finials that have triangular caps. Inside, there are approximately 40 stone nesting boxes still in place.
