39, 41 South High Street, Portsoy

39 and 41 South High Street in Portsoy is a single storey and attic house, built around 1870-1880, that was originally two separate dwellings. The building features five bays and has a canted angled bay at the southeast corner. It is constructed from dark whinstone tooled rubble, accented with contrasting painted courses and tooled sandstone dressings, and has a harled return gable. The entrance, located in the fourth bay, includes a letterbox fanlight and is flanked by one window on the right and two on the left, all featuring long and short dressings. The canted angle is notably corbelled and includes a window. The outer bays have slated wallhead canted dormers. The ground floor windows are fitted with 2-pane timber sash and case glazing, while the dormers have similar 2- and 4-pane glazing. The building has coped end tooled rubble stacks and a slate roof that includes a Velux rooflight.
