5 Weigh-House Square

7 Weigh-House Square is an early to mid-19th century corner warehouse, dated 1861, located next to other warehouses on Virginia Street to the east and Weighhouse Square to the south. The building is four storeys high with an attic and features a distinctive seven by five bay layout with prominent loft openings. The adjacent warehouse to the south on Virginia Street has four bays, while the one to the south on Weighhouse Square has six bays. The structure is built of coursed granite rubble and has regularly spaced rectangular windows on all sides.

The central section of 7 Weigh-House Square is five storeys tall and has a pedimented design, with two-leaf timber hoist doors facing west. The northern elevation features similar hoist doors that have been infilled. The ground floor includes some segmental-arched openings, with several having two-leaf timber doors that have vents at their upper sections.

The warehouses at 6-10 Virginia Street feature a central two-bay nepus gable with a wide stack at the apex that includes a date panel. The windows throughout the buildings are predominantly timber, with vertical metal bars, some being sash and case while others are fixed with timber astragals. The roofs are covered with grey slates, and there are cast-iron rainwater goods.

Inside, the warehouse has timber flooring and some timber panelling at the stairs, along with concertina doors leading to lifts. The Virginia Street warehouse features steel columns and beams, while the Weigh-House Square area has been converted into small storage units, where the columns are not visible but are believed to be cast-iron.
