16, 18 Upperkirkgate, Aberdeen

16 and 18 Upperkirkgate is a tall and narrow four-storey building with an attic and basement, dating from the early 19th century, specifically between 1800 and 1820. Constructed from Loanhead granite ashlar, it features a cill course at the third floor. The ground floor houses a public house, which has an unusually tall and narrow round-arched entrance, flanked by large fixed-pane plate glass windows. To the far right bay, there is an entrance to Kirkgate Court, which serves as the main door to the residential properties above. The building also has a pair of later flat-roofed dormers.

The first and second floors are adorned with regular eight-pane timber sash and case windows that have horns, while the third floor features smaller four-pane openings. The steeply pitched roof is covered with grey slate and includes ashlar skews and skewputts, broad corniced ashlar stacks, and clay cans.
