20, 22 Upperkirkgate, Aberdeen

20 and 22 Upperkirkgate in Aberdeen is an early 19th-century, three-storey, three-bay building that serves both commercial and residential purposes. The structure features a wide rectangular pend and a shop on the ground floor, constructed from Loanhead granite ashlar with strap pointing. The shop entrance is slightly recessed and includes an astragalled rectangular fanlight above, flanked by large fixed-pane windows that have astragalled detailing in the upper portion. The upper floors display regular fenestration.

The entrance to the pend has been converted into a doorway leading to flatted units above, a change made in 2006. At the rear, there is a harled outshot. The upper floors have replacement 12-pane plate glass timber sash and case windows, and the roof is covered with grey slate. A broad brick stack is located at the attic level gable end of the adjoining building, with an ashlar skew on the left gable and clay cans present. The building also features cast-iron rainwater goods.

Inside, some elements were observed in 2006, including fragments of a stone spiral staircase located in a cupboard at the rear of the ground floor.
