Description
This building, located at 238 High Street in Linlithgow, dates from the earlier 19th century and is a two-storey, four-bay tenement featuring a pend and a shop on the ground floor. It is constructed from sandstone rubble, which is stugged, squared, and coursed on the south elevation. The building has a base course and architraves around the windows.
On the south (entrance) elevation, there is a tripartite shop located off-centre to the right, with a fanlit door in the centre flanked by large shop windows. To the outer right, there is a pend with a boarded door that has a multi-pane fanlight above it. A window is situated to the outer left. The first floor has regular fenestration, and the left corner is rounded, sweeping up to the eaves.
The north (rear) elevation consists of three bays with a projecting stair tower in the centre. The ground floor windows feature plate glass, while the first floor has four-pane sash and case windows. The roof is covered with grey slate and has ashlar coped skews and beak skewputts. There are rendered stacks on the gables, with the left gable stack reduced in height.
