Water pump, Tievecrom Road, Forkhill, Newry, Co Armagh, BT35 9RU

A roadside water pump dating from between 1960 and 1979. It is located on a grassy verge on the east side of Tievecrom Road, near Forkhill, Newry, County Armagh. The pump features a plain shaft with three bands, a lugged spout, a fluted top with a cabled rim, and an acorn finial. A slightly curved handle is present. The pump stands 1.35 metres high and is mounted on a concrete base. A low, whitewashed rubble wall is situated on the north side of the pump. While the pump remains maintained, it is currently out of service. It is not depicted on the first four editions of Ordnance Survey maps up to 1957, suggesting a relatively recent construction date. Though not listed for architectural or historical merit, the pump is noted for its industrial archaeological interest.
