Description
The buildings at 55-59 Dominic Street in Newry form a terrace of three, three-storey, two-bay dwellings. They adjoin number 61 Dominic Street (a listed building). While the terrace contributes to the streetscape when viewed as a group, the individual buildings lack significant architectural or historic interest due to the loss of original detailing.
The buildings have pitched natural slate roofs with rendered chimneys and metal rainwater goods. The facades are cement-rendered. Most windows and doors have been replaced with modern versions, with the exception of those at number 57. The windows in number 57 are sliding sash windows with horns: the ground floor has an 8/8 window to the left of the front door; the first floor has two 6/6 windows; and the second floor has two 3/3 windows.
These houses do not appear in the 1863 Second Valuation book, but are recorded in the Valuation Revision of 1866, all with a valuation of £9. This indicates they were likely built as a group in the mid-1860s. They are located in the townland of Ballinlare.
