Description

This is the right-hand building of a pair of three-storey houses arranged symmetrically on either side of a shared coach arch, located on the west side of Dominic Street. The building, which includes the street-facing rooms above the arch, was constructed between 1880 and 1899. The façade is rendered with lined cement and features a raised, stepped decorative quoin on the right-hand side. The entrance features a four-panelled door, a transom light above it, a rendered pilaster surround, and a lozenge-panelled entablature. To the right of the door is a single window, and two windows are present on the first and second floors, with the second-floor windows being smaller; all have granite cills. The ground and first-floor windows are 2/2 sliding sash windows with horns, while the second-floor window is a 1/1 top-hung sash. A shallow segmental coach arch, with rendered brick quoins and voussoir, is located to the left. The roof is pitched and covered with artificial slate, with plastic rainwater goods. A brick chimney is situated on the party wall alongside the central arch. The rear elevation includes a single-storey lean-to return into the yard, with rendered walls. A door is located on the ground floor to the left of the arch, and two 2/2 sliding sash windows are present on the first floor, one above the coach arch and another to its left. The second-floor windows mirror the first floor, except for a modern, top-hung replacement on the left. The building was recorded as “in progress” in the Valuation Revision book in 1888 and was occupied from 1889 onwards, and it sits on the site of former brewery premises. The building has some streetscape value, but it is not of special architectural or historic interest.
