Description

Pair of ashlar granite gate piers originally forming the main entrance to ‘The Glen’, a late-18th century mansion now demolished. The piers, which sit on projecting plinths, stand 2.30m high and measure 60cm in cross-section. Sides embellished with beaded corners and fielded recessed panels, and surmounted by cushion-moulded copings and pyramidal caps. The gates have been removed, and the piers reset further apart to accommodate the traffic into the housing estate which has been built in the grounds of The Glen. A chamfered ashlar base wall (once railed) runs along the boundary at each side.
