Description

This is a two-and-a-half-story, two-bay house located at the western end of a terrace of four originally identical mid-19th century houses along Havelock Place in Warrenpoint. The building has been significantly altered and currently retains no features of architectural or historical importance.

The roof is pitched and covered with artificial slate. Two modern wallhead dormers with pitched roofs and plain bargeboards have been added to the front. The front walls are modern cement render with stepped quoins. A modern front door with a semicircular spoked fanlight is on the ground floor to the right, alongside a large, wide window to its left. There are two windows on the first floor, all fitted with top-hung uPVC units. A small, unenclosed front garden is present. The left gable features modern windows on each floor and two in the attic gable. The rear elevation was not inspected, and the right gable is a party wall shared with the adjacent house.

An 1834 Valuation town map showed a block of five houses on the site; however, the 1861 map indicated only four houses, suggesting a complete rebuild between those dates. An 1863 Valuation book described the house as measuring 7.25 yards by 9 yards, with two-and-a-half stories and a 1.75-story return. A photograph from the late 19th century shows the house with a cast iron skylight on the front roof pitch and walls that appear harled. Original windows included 8/8 sliding sashes on the front and 4/2 sashes at ground floor and 6/6 sashes to upper floors on the left gable. Railings were originally present on a dwarf wall along the front. The building was initially recorded in 1969. It was delisted on June 15, 1988.
