5 Quay Road, Ballycastle, Co Antrim, BT54 6BJ

This is a late 19th century, two-and-a-half storey terrace house with two shopfronts, located on Quay Road, Ballycastle. The building, which is currently undergoing extensive renovations, contributes to the character of the surrounding Conservation Area. It is a three-bay wide terrace, and its elevation to Quay Road features two shopfronts at ground floor, with shop doors that are not yet completed. The first floor has three window openings, which lack windows, and are finished with plain plaster architraves. A continuous moulded string course runs above the window heads, topped with an ogee gutter and four short downpipes at the eaves. Three gabled dormers are also present, but currently lack windows. The walls are smooth, rendered, and painted, with plaster quoins at each side. The roof is natural slate, with chimney stacks centred on each gable. The ridge of the building is notably higher than those of adjacent properties. While conforming to the building line of Quay Road, a wide paved area extends in front of the building, lacking a boundary wall. The building was constructed between 1880 and 1899 and previously contained shops. The current owner is restoring the front of the building to its original appearance, based on an Ordnance Survey map from 1904 and information provided by the building owner.
