Dirtagh Bridge, Windyhill Road, Limavady, Co Londonderry

Dirtagh Bridge is a stone bridge dating from approximately 1780 to 1799, built during the Georgian period. It is located on Windyhill Road, near Limavady, County Londonderry, spanning the River Lynn, a tributary of the Curly River. The bridge, while contributing character to the road, is not considered of sufficient quality to be formally listed.

The bridge is a simple, almost semi-circular arch constructed of rubble stone. It has a span of almost five metres, supported by vertical abutments and long, thin voissoirs of schist. The parapets, 19 metres in length and 900mm high, are topped with pigsback concrete coping that is painted black and white on both sides of the carriageway, which is just over five metres wide.

Historically, the bridge sits upon the old route between Limavady and Coleraine, formerly known as the Murderhole Road and the Long Causeway. It likely replaced an earlier structure and is maintained at county expense, as noted in the Ordnance Survey Memoirs of Ireland. The bridge has recorded industrial archaeological interest.
