Ardress Bridge, Derrycrew Road, Loughgall, Co Armagh

This is an early 19th-century bridge located on the Derrycrew Road, Loughgall, carrying a public road over the Tall River. The bridge is constructed of rubble masonry and features a single segmental arch, now cement rendered, along with rendered spandrels and the outer faces of the parapets. Only the rubble stone copings of the parapets remain unrendered. The underside of the arch (soffit) is also rendered. The carriageway has a slightly humped profile and is flanked by grass verges on both sides. The bridge appears on an Ordnance Survey map of 1834 and was named 'Ardress Bridge' on a subsequent map from 1859. Construction is believed to have occurred between 1820 and 1839. The bridge is situated in a rural setting surrounded by fields. It is considered to be of industrial archaeological interest, although it has had its original appearance altered.
