Description
This is a derelict former thatched cottage located in Stradreagh, near Limavady, County Londonderry. Likely constructed between 1820 and 1839, it was originally a direct entry cottage with associated outbuildings. The thatch has since collapsed, although remnants of the roof truss and some thatch are still visible. A small window is located in the south-west gable, illuminating the former roof space, and the original doorway is gone. Three window openings are visible in the two-roomed cottage. The cottage lacks a bed outshot and rear windows. A small barn is situated downhill from the cottage, with a row of barns extending perpendicular to the house to the north-east. These barns are situated on flat ground at the base of a cliff. The cottage is parallel to the access road. The walls are constructed of basalt with no trace of any former whitewash. The cottage was recorded as thatched in a 1970 survey and appears on the 1831 Ordnance Survey Map. It is currently in private ownership and is noted for its vernacular architecture.
