Rush Hall Nursing Home, 51 Broighter Road, Farlow, Limavady, Co Londonderry BT49 9DV

Rush Hall Nursing Home is a large, late Victorian red brick house, significantly altered with extensions. It is situated within well-maintained grounds. The main house is a two-storey villa with prominent bays, deep eaves, and decorative corbels punctuating the overhang. A two-bay return is visible at the rear, featuring Flemish bond brickwork and decorative infill clay tiles, alongside sandstone entrance steps. The building has been extended since its conversion to a nursing home, particularly in 1984.

The site has a history dating back to at least 1725 when Robert McCausland resided there. In 1835, it served as the residence of Mr Hugh Boyle, who described the house as an extensive cottage attached at a right angle to the original structure. Following his death, Hugh Boyle bequeathed the property to his second son, Connolly. The present house was rebuilt around 1885. The Boyle family’s lineage traces back to James Boyle, who married Mary Buoy, a daughter of Mary Campbell and James Buoy, a Limavady merchant who died in 1696. James Buoy’s estate, including Carrick, Clougher, and Muldoney, was divided among his six daughters, each receiving a one-sixth share.
