Description
Court Nursing Home is a pair of houses that have been combined into a single nursing home. They were built in the early to mid-19th century and have undergone some alterations. The structure is made of red brick laid in Flemish bond with sandstone detailing, and the roof is not visible. The buildings have a rectangular plan, featuring bows at both the front and rear, with entrances located in the side walls.
The property has two stories above a basement and consists of three bays with a symmetrical design, where the central bay slightly projects forward. It features a high plinth, a first-floor sill-band, a cornice, and a blocking course with a raised pedimental center. The facade facing the road includes a semi-circular bow at the basement and ground floor of the outer bays, which contain curved 12-pane sash windows with panelled sills and flat-arched heads made of gauged brick. Above these, there are two windows between the bows and four more at the first floor, all with flat-arched heads of gauged brick and now fitted with 12-pane top-hung casements that mimic sash windows.
The three-bay side walls, which serve as the entrance fronts, have central recessed porches supported by Tuscan columns arranged distyle in antis. The windows on these sides are similar to those at the front but have altered glazing. At the rear, there are full-height bows on the outer bays and a full-height back extension with a lean-to roof. The interior has not been inspected.
