Description
The Mount is a house, now a disused nursing home, built in the late 18th to early 19th century, with later additions and alterations. It is constructed of brown brick in Flemish bond and has mostly Welsh slate roofs, which replaced the original Westmorland slate. The building is two and three storeys high, with a facade featuring a pattern of 1:2:5:2:1 bays.
The central block is three storeys tall and slightly projects from the main structure. It has a central six-panel door with an overlight, set within an architrave that includes a plain frieze and cornice. Above the doorway is a firemark, and there are sill bands present. The windows have flat arches, with the ground floor featuring 20th-century casements that have been lengthened below the sill band. The first-floor windows are sashes, although the central window is blocked. The second floor has smaller sash windows, and there is a moulded gutter beneath a hipped roof.
The paired flanking bays have small flat arches and matching window designs, with a French window on the ground floor of the right bay. The roofs of these bays are hipped at the outer ends. The end bays are slightly recessed, featuring lean-to roofs and mostly blocked openings. There are 20th-century additions to the left and rear that are not of special interest. The right return has fenestration dating from around 1900.
