Description
This is a Queen Victoria post box, manufactured from cast iron between 1880 and 1899. It is built into the wall of a single-story outbuilding at 1 Tarthlogue Road, Eglish, near Portadown, in County Armagh. The post box is inscribed with the initials ‘VR’ within a raised crown, along with the maker’s mark 'T. Allen & Co. London', and is identified as post-box no. BT62 37. The post box is set within a building facing a minor road in a rural area. The outbuilding itself is not of architectural or historic interest. The building, which originally served as a schoolhouse, is shown on Ordnance Survey maps dating from 1834-5 and 1859.
