9 Main Street, Ballywalter, Newtownards, Co. Down, BT22 2PQ

This is a largely plain, two-storey, double-fronted rendered terrace house located on the east side of Main Street, Ballywalter. It was likely constructed in the mid to later 19th century, with a probable construction date between 1860 and 1879. The front (west) elevation is symmetrical, featuring a central PVC-framed door flanked by single windows on the ground floor, and three windows above. The facade is finished with plain painted render and simulated (painted) quoins.

A single-storey lean-to kitchen/porch extension to the rear incorporates PVC windows and a door. To either side of the extension are single windows on the main house, with three windows on the first floor. A small shed-like extension is located at the far left of the ground floor elevation. The roof is pitched and covered with Bangor blue slates, with two rendered chimney stacks present. Rainwater goods are cast iron. The facade is finished with lined render and painted.

Historical records indicate that a terrace was present on this site on an Ordnance Survey map of 1834. The Ordnance Survey Memoirs of 1837 describe the area as having stone cottages, generally one storey in height, with slated and whitewashed exteriors. It is likely that this terrace was originally of a lower height and that the present house was either heightened or newly built in the mid to later 19th century. The property is currently in private ownership and was delisted on 3 July 2003.
