Seaview House, 105 Comber Road, Castleaverry, Newtownards, Co. Down, BT23 4QS

Seaview House is a large, two-storey gabled farmhouse dating to 1862/63, situated at the end of a lane to the west of the Comber Road, just over a mile south of Newtownards in County Down. The house is of local significance, but not of sufficient special interest to merit listing.

The front, east-facing facade is symmetrical. The centre of the ground floor features an "Ards" doorway with panelled pilasters, archivolt, and keystone, although the door itself is a recent panelled and glazed design. A sash window with vertical glazing bars is positioned to the left of the doorway, while a similarly sized window to the right has a modern frame. The first floor has three windows: the two on the left retain sash frames, while the one on the right has a modern frame. The north gable has a single-storey shed section with a monopitched roof attached, with the upper half of the gable remaining blank. The south gable has a sash window to the ground and first floor.

This gable merges with the south facade of a massive, full-height gabled return. The return’s east half has two levels, while the west half extends to three levels. The return’s left side features a small window with a modern frame at ground level, above which is a larger window with a similar frame. To the right of this are a ground floor sash window and a window with a modern frame directly above, followed by a small sash window. The north facade of the return has a small sash window at ground floor level to the left, with two similar windows at the upper (first floor) level. The ground floor right side of the return has a timber-sheeted rear door and a sash window to its right. The first level has two sash windows, with two small, single-pane windows directly above them on the second level. The gable of the return has a timber-sheeted store door at each of its three levels.

The entire facade is rough cast, with simple, plain rendered surrounds to the openings. The roof is covered with Bangor blue slates, accompanied by rendered parapets and three rendered chimney stacks (one centered on the return roof). Cast iron rainwater goods are present.

The house was built in 1862/63 by the McCracken family, some of whom also constructed Ballyrickard House approximately half a mile to the south. The return was likely extended sometime between 1880 and 1900. In 1953, the then owner’s father renovated much of the interior, during which all original fireplaces were removed.
