Description

Largely demolished single storey farm house of probable pre 1834 origin situated to the NE of the Moate Road, roughly half way between Newtownards and Comber. Much of the front (SE) facade of this house can still be discerned with remains of a sash window to the left and an ‘Ards’ doorway (with modern door) to the centre right . This facade is finished in rough cast render with chamfered quoins. There is the remains of a sash window to the right on the NE gable. The SW ‘gable’ is largely demolished with the remaining section covered in greenery. There is a garden wall attached to this ‘gable’. The right half of the rear facade has been completely demolished and there is a lean to extension attached to the still extant left half, with a further small extension with moon-pitched roof attached to the NE side of the lean to. The NE half of this former dwelling has been converted to a garage/store and has a corrugated asbestos covered gabled roof. When first surveyed in April 1971 this house (which was still occupied) had a bay window to either side of the entrance, but these are no longer in evidence. Modern (c.early 1960s) two storey house a few metres to the SE.
