Description
26 Seaview is one of a pair of two-and-a-half-storey, two-bay houses situated on the north side of Seaview, facing the sea. Constructed between 1860 and 1879, the houses are of a relatively late date and do not possess significant architectural or historic interest.
The house has a pitched natural slate roof with a rendered and painted chimney stack to the right gable. A corbelled eaves course supports cast-iron half-round gutters, which drain into a secondary gutter located beneath the attic windows. Two wall-head dormers feature pitched natural slate roofs and decorative fretted bargeboards, with slate-hung cheeks. The walls are rendered and painted, with the ground floor featuring rusticated banding. Moulded cill courses are present at the first floor and attic window levels.
The left bay features a segmental-headed doorway with moulded stucco architraves and a decorative keyblock. Access is provided by a path leading up five external steps to a modern stained timber door, with a smaller glazed timber panel to the left. A plain glazed fanlight is positioned above the door. To the right of the doorway is a timber 1/1 top-hung casement window with a moulded stucco architrave, decorative knee brackets, and a painted cill. Matching windows are aligned above on the first floor, but with plain moulded knee architraves. Each wall-head dormer contains a segmental-headed 1/1 top-hung casement window. The left gable abuts an adjoining building (HB16/12/018E). The rear elevation was not inspected, and the right gable is blank. A front garden is enclosed by a low dwarf wall with modern metal railings and a gate at the left end.
The house, along with its adjoining property (HB16/12/018E), first appeared in the Valuation Revision Book entry of 1879.
The building is currently used as a house and is privately owned.
