Description
The Ringneill Bridge is a road bridge, likely dating from around 1820 to 1839, situated in the hamlet of Ringneill, approximately 3.5 miles north of the village of Killinchy. The bridge crosses a river at the edge of a lough. It is constructed from random rubble, with a roughly built low parapet. Originally, the bridge comprised a single semicircular stone arch. However, it has been extended on both sides with two modern precast concrete arches, and the sides of the bridge have been extended outwards irregularly using snecked rubble. An iron water pipe is located above the extended section on the south side. A bridge is depicted on Ordnance Survey maps from 1834 and 1859-60, indicating its presence at this location in that period. The extensions and concrete arch insertions appear to have occurred after 1973. The bridge is considered to be of industrial archaeological interest.
