17 Main Street, Greyabbey, Newtownards, Co. Down, BT22 2NE

This is a small, plain, single-storey gabled terrace house, likely constructed in the mid-19th century and currently operating as a doctor's surgery. It is situated on the southeast side of Main Street in Greyabbey. The facade is finished with rough cast rendering, and the roof is gabled with Bangor blue slate tiles, featuring a PVC gutter.

The asymmetrical northwest-facing front elevation includes a timber-panelled front door with a plain fanlight. A narrow, moulded surround, possibly added around 1925-1930, frames the doorway, featuring a moulded keystone and quoin-like moulded sections on either side. Traditional street signage is positioned between the door and the first window, with a small “clinic” sign to the right of the door. A small electric light is mounted on the wall to the left of the door. A window with a recent timber frame, featuring Georgian-style panes, is positioned to the right of the doorway. A sash window, complete with wrought iron railings, on the far right, actually belongs to the adjacent police station, and the metal fence surrounding the station is attached to the facade of this building (number 82) between the first and second windows. The northeast gable is blank.

The rear of the property features two modern timber windows on the right and a glazed door with steps leading down on the left.

Historical records suggest a larger building may have occupied this site in 1834, indicating a possible later 19th-century construction date for this specific building. A photograph from approximately 1920 shows a lintel frieze and cornice, supported on curved brackets, above the doorway, which have subsequently been removed. A gable chimney stack has also been removed in recent times.
