BT kiosk, Main Street, Greyabbey, Newtownards, Co. Down, BT22 2NE

This is a classic red telephone kiosk (K6) designed by Sir Giles Gilbert Scott in 1924. The model was the result of a design competition and remained in widespread use throughout the UK until 1985, when damaged kiosks were replaced. This particular example is located on Main Street in Greyabbey, near the junction with Newtownards Road, and it likely dates from the 1930s. The kiosk is in good condition and reasonably well maintained. It displays architectural interest due to its style, proportions, ornamentation and plan form and is of historical interest for its social, cultural and economic significance, its authorship, and local importance. It retains its original function as a telephone kiosk and is in commercial ownership.
