Description

Wilderness Lodge stood on the corner of Ballymena Road and Randalstown Road in Antrim. The building has been demolished and the site is now a roadway. It was described in a 1970 survey as an L-shaped house, two storeys high, with five bays on each facade. The walls were rendered, and the roof was slated. Most windows on the Ballymena Road elevation had full glazing bars, except for one plain sash window. Similarly, all but two windows on the Randalstown Road elevation had full glazing bars, while the remaining two had coloured glazing. Both entrances were topped by segmental-arched fanlights; the fanlight on the Ballymena Road side was radially glazed.

The precise date of construction is not recorded, but a portion of the building appears on the Ordnance Survey map of 1832, with the remainder depicted on the 1857 Ordnance Survey map, suggesting it was primarily built in the mid-19th century, likely between 1840 and 1859. Around 1920, it was used as a convent for the Sisters of St Vincent.
