1 & 3 Castle Street, Antrim

The buildings at 1 and 3 Castle Street, Antrim, were a pair of cottages dating from approximately 1880 to 1899, likely constructed in the late Victorian period. They were built of coursed rubble blackstone with dressings of blue brick around the plain sash windows and doors. The upper windows were set within half-dormers, and the roofs were slated, with cresting along the ridges. Red brick chimneys were present. Projecting porches sheltered the entrances, which featured slated doors topped by horizontal lattice-paned fanlights. The south gable of the block appears in an old photograph of Castle Street, as documented by J. Hanna in Old Antrim. The buildings were demolished to make way for a car park. Records from 1962 show their presence on Ordnance Survey maps.
