34-40 Main Street, Randalstown, Antrim, Co Antrim

The building stood as a two-storey, eight-bay terrace on Main Street, Randalstown, Antrim. Its construction likely occurred between 1840 and 1859, although a smaller building had previously been depicted on the site in an Ordnance Survey map of 1829. It first appeared on the 1858 Ordnance Survey map. Originally built as a terrace of houses, shop fronts were later inserted in the late 19th century.

The terrace had lined rendered walls, slated roofs, and brick chimneys, two of which were rendered. Most upper windows had full glazing bars set in wide sash boxes, with all but two retaining this feature. Two of the properties had double fronted shops, and two single, incised pilasters rose to console flanked entablatures.

Nos. 34 and 36 were demolished around 1975, and nos. 38 and 40 followed in 2000. The site now remains vacant. The terrace was located within the Randalstown conservation area, and photographic records exist in the possession of Sheelagh Hillen.
