Description

Old East End Cottages is a house that was originally built in the early 17th century and has since been subdivided into cottages, but is now once again a single dwelling and currently undergoing repairs as of August 1985. The building features coursed rubble construction and a triple-Roman tiled roof with coped verges and brick and rubble stacks. It has an L-shaped plan with three units and a cross passage, presenting a two-storey front with four bays and four front-facing gables.

The windows include three-light ovolo moulded stone mullioned windows with stopped labels, except for two four-light windows on the left side of the ground floor which have a central king mullion. The windows feature diamond-paned leaded lights, while the remainder has 19th-century casements. A two-light late 19th-century casement has been inserted on the ground floor. The principal door is located in the third bay, framed by a moulded freestone surround with a four-centred head, enriched spandrels, a foliate frieze, and a stopped label, leading to a plank door. There is an additional door with a plank door situated between the first and second bays.

On the right return, there is a 19th-century lean-to. The rear elevations also have stone mullioned windows and sole casements. Inside, the building features a framed ceiling, remains of a panelled partition, and fireplaces with broad wooden bressumers, including one with a four-centred head and incised spandrels.
