Description
Coombe Cottage is a detached house that dates back to at least the early 19th century. It is constructed from local stone, which is rendered and color-washed on the front elevation, and features a roof made of triple roll clay tiles with plain gables and brick chimney stacks. The house has an 'L'-shaped plan and stands two storeys tall, comprising four bays, with the fourth bay projecting.
The first and second bays were built separately and have narrow three-light casement windows above them. Between these bays is an angled sash window with a configuration of 8+16+8 panes. The third bay features a projecting flat-roofed two-storey porch that contains a six-panel door beneath a semi-circular fanlight, all set within a wooden lattice porch topped with a curved metal roof. On the east side of this porch is a Y-traceried sash window. The fourth bay includes a nine-pane sash window above and a three-pane plus nine-pane plus three-pane sash bay window with a flat roof below it. There is also a further extension to the west, which is behind a parapet wall. The house is depicted on the Tithe Commissioners map of 1839. The interior has not been seen.
