Description

Barley Cost is a cottage dating from the 18th century, constructed from local stone rubble with a thatched roof featuring coped gables and brick chimney stacks at both ends and in the middle. The building is two stories high and has four bays with slightly random window arrangements. The windows are timber casement types, some of an early design with leaded lights, and they have exposed timber lintels at the ground floor. The entrance doorway is in a heavy frame and is located in a thatched porch between the third and fourth bays. The cottage shows signs of having been extended at both ends. There is a pointed head window with a four-centre arch on the first floor of the west gable.
