Description
These are a pair of cottages located at Snails Hill, dating from the early 19th century. They are built from local stone rubble and feature a double Roman pattern clay tile roof with a good eaves overhang, supported by a west coped gable and brick chimney stacks at both ends and in the middle. The cottages are two stories high with six bays of irregularly placed windows. The windows are timber casements with exposed timber lintels, and the west cottage has leaded lights in the lower levels of bays four and five. There are plain entrance doors at bay two and between bays five and six, and a blank panel above the lower window in bay four, which displays a 'Fire and Life, Farmers' metal fire insurance plaque. These cottages are humble yet unspoiled examples of their type. Attached to the east is a property named 'Pennywell', which is not included in this listing.
