Description

Bow Bridge is a road bridge over the River Parrett, built in the 18th century and widened in 1880. It is constructed from ham stone ashlar and features a semi-circular arch. The bridge has plain parapets with iron cramps that return on curves at each corner to fit the bank seating.

The road served as the recognized route between Wells and Dorchester in 1675, according to Ogilby, but it was never made a turnpike and lost its significance over time. The widening in 1880 was carried out by the Crewkerne Highway Board at a cost of £14.

This bridge was previously listed twice under the parish of West Chinnock, but that entry was removed from the List on 14 December 2017. This listing also underwent a Minor Amendment on the same date.
