Description
Argyle Chambers and the boundary wall to the east were built between 1813 and 1836 and are included for their group value. This mid-19th century building has three storeys constructed of rubble with freestone dressings. It features one bay facing Bath Street, with stepped cills and bracketed cornices above the ground and first-floor windows. There is a string course over the raised ground floor. The ground floor has an ashlar lobby with three bays, likely added in the 1880s, which includes corner piers, a cornice at the parapet, and pilasters flanking the central doorway and side windows. The windows are glazing bar sash types set in arched openings. To the east, there is a small stable wing with a central fanlight above double doors, which was formerly the cart house of No 12. This wing is connected to the boundary wall of No 12 Gentle Street by a street wall approximately 7 feet high, made of rubble with a blocked entrance that retains four hinge pins.
