Description
The screen and gates at the entrance to the forecourt of the Church of St John the Baptist were built in 1814 and designed by architect Jeffery Wyatt, also known as Wyatville. This Tudor Gothic structure features a five-arched stone screen with pinnacles and buttresses. The central arch is taller and includes tracery, while the spandrels are panelled, and there are pinnacles along the parapet. The main arch has gates, and there are pitched paths leading to subsidiary gates. This entrance leads to a paved area in front of the west end of the Parish Church.
