Description

The south boundary wall, railings, gates, and piers, located about 45 metres south of St Michael's Church, date from the early 19th century. The wall is constructed from Ham and local lias stone, with the local stone being roughly cut and squared along the western length, topped with roll coping. The gate piers are approximately 500 millimetres square and 2.5 metres high, featuring plain plinths and shafts with collars and fluted caps that have ogee pyramidal tops. The railings are made of cast iron and topped with arrow spikes, and the gates match this design, incorporating quatrefoil decoration on the middle rail. This structure contributes to the setting of St Michael's Church and enhances the street scene in the Market Place.
