Description

This is an 18th-century chest tomb located in the churchyard, 9 metres south of the porch of the Church of St. Peter in Lydford-on-Fosse. It is made of dressed lias and Ham stone and features a classic oblong shape on a moulded plinth, although the plinth was buried during a re-survey in August 1984. The tomb has end pilasters on the north and south sides, along with a central pilaster, each topped with a relief carving of an angel's head. There are carved circular panels between the pilasters that contain inscriptions, which are now much decayed, as well as similar circular panels on the east and west ends. The top of the tomb is a hipped slab, which is moulded around its lower edge.
