Description
Higher House is a farmhouse, now a house, dating from the 18th century, with external features from the late 18th century and early 19th century. The building is constructed of coursed and squared lias stone and has a thatched roof with renewed 19th century brick stacks and coped verges. It has an asymmetrical T-plan and is two storeys high, featuring three bays on one side and one bay on the other. The first floor has three-light casements under wooden lintels, while the ground floor has flush mounted 16-pane sash windows also under wooden lintels. The door opening is located in the second bay from the left and features paired three-panelled doors with a thatched and gabled hood supported by console brackets. There is a wing at right angles to the rear, designed in a matching style. Inside, the ground floor includes some wainscot panelling and two niche cupboards with shell hoods in the left ground floor room.
