Description
Barberry is an early 19th-century house located on the south side of Castle Cary Road in Lydford-on-Fosse. It is constructed of coursed and squared lias stone with a slate roof and features end brick stacks. The house has a symmetrical frontage with two storeys and three bays, showcasing renewed 12-pane sash windows. The central door opening is highlighted by an elaborate nine-panelled door and a transom light. A Roman Doric stone portico with a flat entablature and blocking course adorns the entrance; the frieze includes triglyphs and guttae, with a patera on each metope, all supported by two plain columns. To the left, there is a single-storey outshut designed in a matching style. Inside, the left ground floor room contains a mid to late 19th-century fireplace.
