Description

Blagdon Hill United Reformed Church is a Non-conformist chapel built in 1837. It features chert random rubble construction and a slate roof with overhanging eaves. The east end has a brick stack with a coved cap. The building has a standard plan with five bays and a south porch. The east end is supported by stepped buttresses, flanking a pointed arch opening that contains an early 20th-century pivoted window, complete with a hoodmould featuring floral terminals. A tablet in the gable end is inscribed 'Built 1837'.

On the north front, there is a blind pointed arch opening at the eastern end, alongside four diamond-paned pointed arch head fixed light windows. The unlit west end features a square-headed plank door at the west end, with three fixed light windows to the left of the gabled porch and a blind opening to the right. There is a Tudor arch head doorway with the original door. At the apex of the roof, there is a shallow projection that likely remains of a bell-cote. The church also has some attractive cast iron ventilation grills. The interior has not been seen. The chapel was funded by Mrs. Welman of Poundisford Park, who also financed the school located to the south.
