Description

PITMINSTER CP ST21NW BLAGDON Blagdon Hill United reformed 10/98 Church GV II Non-conformist chapel. Dated 1837. Chert random rubble, slate roof, overhanging eaves, brick stack with coved cap east end. Plan: 5-bay standard plan, south porch. Stepped buttresses east end flanking pointed arch opening with early C20 pivoted window, hoodmould with floral terminals, tablet in gable end inscribed 'Built 1837"; north front, eastern end blind pointed arch opening beyond, 4 diamond paned, pointed arch head fixed light windows; unlit west end, south front square headed plank door west end, 3 fixed light windows left of gabled porch, blind opening right, Tudor arch head doorway with original door; shallow projection on apex of roof presumably remains of bell-cote. Some attractive cast iron ventilation grills. Interior not seen. The chapel was erected at the expense of Mrs Welman of Poundisford Park(qv), who also paid for the school (qv) to south.
