Description
Kails Farmhouse is a detached farmhouse dating from the 18th century, with possible earlier elements. It is constructed from coursed ham stone rubble and features a thatched roof with a stepped coped gable at the west end and a plain gable at the east. The building has two storeys and a five-bay south elevation, where bays four and five may be later additions. The windows in bays one, two, and three are horizontal-bar windows with three lights, while bay four has a two-light window. Between the lower bays two and three, there is a glazed door set in an open timber and slated porch, and bay five has a boarded door in a heavy frame.
On the east gable, there is a single-storey extension with a hipped thatched roof, which includes a doorway and a two-light casement window with internal vertical iron bars. Further east, there is another extension with a double-Roman clay tiled roof that connects to a former dairy building, which is set at right angles to the main structure and is currently in ruins as of January 1986. The north elevation is similar to the south, featuring two doorways, with the more westerly one having a concrete block and slated porch. The interior has not been seen.
