Description
The front boundary wall to Dillington Park Lodge and the entrance gateway to Dillington Park is likely from the 18th century. It is constructed from ham stone ashlar and features cast-iron gates. The boundary wall, which is set on a concave curve, stands about one metre high on average and has thin angled coping. This wall is complemented by returns on the east side of the gateway to Dillington House. At each end of the wall, particularly the western end adjacent to the lodge, there are square piers made of rusticated ashlar, topped with cavetto-mould coving and curved sweeps rising from the wall. The gateway is framed by similar piers that support a large wrought-iron gate, which has cast-iron spearpoints on the top and middle rails. This structure is an important feature in the streetscape and contributes to the setting of the Park Lodge.
