Description
The Baptist Chapel, attached schoolroom, forecourt wall with railings, gate piers, and gates, dated 1839, is constructed of random rubble for the chapel and schoolroom, with frontages rendered to imitate ashlar and rusticated ashlar quoins. The roofs are slate, with the chapel's ridge running at right angles to the gabled facade, which features a coping and a painted plaque in the center stating "Baptist Chapel 1839." A circular zinc ventilation cupola is also present. The building has a plain appearance, with the schoolroom on the left being a single-storey, one-bay structure, while the chapel has a two-storey frontage with two bays. All window openings are in plain semi-circular headed stone surrounds, featuring sash windows with glazing bars that create a radiating pattern at each head. The chapel includes a central ashlar gabled porch with a segmental-headed door opening and a nine-panelled inner door with a latch mechanism. The schoolroom door consists of four panels in a plain stone surround. Inside, the galleried area features a panelled pulpit on a plinth, accessed by three steps to the right, with a ramped handrail on plain balusters and turned newel posts. The gallery has a frontage of seven panels with a moulded handrail, integral pens, and is supported by twin square wooden columns flanking a central aisle, with recessed panels on each face. The forecourt is enclosed by plain cast iron railings with slightly twisted finials, set on a low ashlar plinth, with two gates in a similar style and three ashlar piers topped with pyramidal cappings.
