Description

The Wesleyan Methodist Chapel, along with its forecourt walls, gate piers, and gates, was built in 1839. The chapel is constructed of random rubble with an ashlar gabled facade and has a slate roof that runs at right angles to the front. It has a plain appearance and features a two-storey front with two bays on the ground floor. The ground floor includes semi-circular head sash windows with gothic-style glazing bars, keystones, and imposts, while there is a single similar opening of lesser height in the center of the gable. Above this is an incised stone plaque that reads "Wesleyan Methodist Chapel 1839." The central door opening is framed by an architrave and topped with a pediment on brackets, leading to double three-panelled doors. The complete interior includes a pulpit on a dais, pews, and a gallery with a pierced cast iron frontage that incorporates a clock. The forecourt walls are made of rubble with a dressed coping, and there are a pair of central ashlar gate piers with moulded caps, along with paired gates and plain cast iron railings.
