Description

The Old Church Hall and School, also known as St Andrews Church, is a disused building dating from around 1841, incorporating elements from the 17th century. It features red sandstone random rubble masonry, with the elevations facing the churchyard rendered, and has Welsh slate roofs. The structure is L-shaped and consists of a two-storey block with a basement beneath the cross-wing, which serves as the church hall. This part has a more steeply pitched roof than the school section, with a coped gable and a two-storey canted bay that includes mullioned and transomed windows made of Ham stone, likely reused from the 16th century.

The entrance is located at the right return angle and features a Tudor-style doorway with a square-headed drip mould and stops. Above the doorway is a diamond-shaped panel displaying a bishop's mitre and a rose, which has been taken from the Bishops Palace. On the first floor, there is a pair of four-light mullion and transom windows, both of which are blocked in the lower half. The school section has wooden casements on both the front and rear elevations, with leaded casements on the two end bays facing the churchyard. There are tongue and groove, squared-headed doorways leading onto Rotten Row. Inside the school, there is a re-used 16th-century moulded wooden ceiling.
