Description

This building is a farm structure located about 25 meters northeast of Lower Fyfett Farmhouse. It is likely from the 18th century, with enlargements made in the mid-19th century and alterations in the mid-20th century. The construction features chert stone random rubble with ashlar dressings and slate roofs. The building has a gable front and a hipped roof on the west side.

The barn is oriented parallel to the road and has been extended on the foldyard side. It is two storeys tall with five bays, where the outer bays and the center slightly project forward. On the first floor, there is a square-headed opening to the left and the center is flanked by larger semi-circular headed openings with keystones. The center and right end bay have semi-circular headed openings that are covered with corrugated iron sheeting. The ground floor features a square-headed doorway on the left end bay and a semi-circular doorway in the center, also with a keystone. The right end bay is obscured by a single-storey range of farm buildings that are not of special interest.

On the north side, there are three large raking buttresses. The building presents an unexpectedly grand appearance, which may suggest it was part of an unfinished architectural scheme. The interior has not been seen.
