Description

Stocker's House is a house located on Broad Street in Somerton, dating from the 18th century or earlier. It is constructed from local lias stone that has been cut and squared, and features a Welsh slate roof with stone slate base courses, supported by brick end chimney stacks. The house is two storeys high and has three bays. The windows are sash style with 12 panes, with paired windows in the outer bays above. The upper and lower bay three windows have stone hoods, which appear to have been trimmed from earlier labels. There is a 20th-century door paired with the lower bay three window. The second bay features a large double angled bay window with small pane casements and a lead flat roof. The interior has not been seen, but the Victoria County History mentions a later addition to the rear that includes a parlour and staircase wing from an earlier house.

In front of the house, there is a stone boundary wall approximately 750mm high, topped with Ham stone copings and gabletted capped piers. The wall is complemented by cast iron railings featuring a quatrefoil motif and a matching gate, enhancing the setting of the house. Stocker's House was formerly part of a single property with Medwyn House to the north.
