Description
The Vile monument is a chest tomb located in the churchyard about 5 metres south of the porch of the Church of St Mary. It dates from the early 18th century, although the panels were recut in the 19th century. The tomb is made of Ham stone and features a moulded base. It has one panel on each end and two panels on each side, with fluted Ionic pilasters at the corners and between the panels. The hipped top has moulded coving and rounded leading edges. This monument commemorates various members of the Vile family who passed away in the 19th century.
