Description

This is a milepost located on the roadside at Bruton Road in Evercreech, dating from the early 19th century. It is made of cast iron and has a V-shaped design with a canted top. The milepost features raised lettering indicating the distances to Wincanton (8 miles), Shepton Mallet (4 miles), and Bruton (3 miles). It is part of the former Shepton Mallet Turnpike Trust, as noted by Bryan Morland in his introduction to the Infrastructure of the Industrial Revolution in Somerset, published in 1982.
